February 18 & 19, 2012: Buffalo Soldiers
The Buffalo Soldiers were at Fort Verde to celebrate African American Heritage Month, in conjunction with the Town's Pecan and Wine Festival. They conducted living history presentations, as well as riding demonstrations. There was a Pecan pie contest at 11 am. Over 900 people came to theFort over the weekend for this event! Special thanks to:
- The Buffalo Soldier re-enactors: 1st Sgt. Larry Richards, Herb Petty, Jerome Square, Linus Hinton and Cheryl Jackson.
- The Buffalo Soldiers of America, Motorcycle Riders: Chaz Jackson, Woo, Spiderman, Flash, Braveheart, Ali and Eastcoast (a non-profit organization that carries on the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers from 1866 -1948)
- Local Boy Scout Troop, led by Bruce Carlson.
- Our volunteers, Dutch Oven Cooks Bill Stafford & Bob, Shifra & Jim Boehje, Gary & Sharon Munson, David & Barbara Perriman, Merle & Michelle Herrick, Jim Worthington, Ruth Flynn, Mario Dominius, George & Carole Dvorak, Sue Tipton, Michael Siebentritt, Karin, Fran Stowell,Dan Galindez, Cptn. Wilm. Porter, Ruth Rogers, and Florence Porter. And to the many volunteers that helped behind the scenes with prep and setting up tents, tables and chairs.
