Sept. 27: National Public Lands Day at Dankworth Pond

8 – 11 am. The Bureau of Land Management-Safford Field Office, in partnership with Arizona State Parks, will host a National Public Lands Day (NPLD) event at Dankworth Pond, a unit of Roper Lake State Park in Safford, Arizona. The National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single day volunteer effort for public lands and is celebrated annually on a Saturday in late September. The NPLD educates about environment and natural resources and the need for shared stewardship of these irreplaceable lands.

Call for Volunteers! We would like to extend an invitation to any/all groups, organizations or individuals to participate in this event at the Dankworth Indian Village at Dankworth Pond, three miles south of Roper Lake. The Dankworth Indian Village is a re-created archaeological site that features structures of previous cultures from the area. This area was used by Native Americans over 11,500 years ago, when southeastern Arizona was cooler and wetter than it is today. Volunteers will provide assistance to reconstruct historic sites, install signage and provide trail maintenance. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Christina M. Ramirez at (928) 348-4444 or emai cramirez(at)blm.gov.
